Moku'ula Royal Burial Treasure — Lahaina

Lost Treasure HI • Maui County County
Description
Maui royalty legend tying King Kamehameha's lost grave and sacred wealth to submerged Moku'ula island in Lahaina's Mokuhinia pond — a former royal residence now buried under landfill and restoration plans.
Historical Notes
Moku'ula was the sacred seat of Maui chiefs including King Kamehameha III; the island sat in a freshwater pond surrounded by kapu burial traditions. Some treasure researchers believe Kamehameha I's remains or royal grave goods may lie in the filled pond area rather than Iao Valley. Archaeology.org and Honolulu Magazine document ongoing efforts to restore Moku'ula while preserving its royal and spiritual significance.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
