Kaena Point Pirate Chests (1823)

Lost Treasure HI • Honolulu County County
Description
1823 Oahu legend of a pirate crew burying six chests of treasure near Kaena Point — supposedly marked by fitted-stone walls atop a coastal hill on the island's westernmost cape.
Historical Notes
Popular Hawaii treasure lists repeat that a band of pirates landed at Kaena Point in 1823, cached six chests inland, and sailed away without reclaiming them. Searchers have looked for stone wall markers on the rugged point dividing leeward and windward Oahu, but no authenticated recovery is documented. Kaena Point State Park preserves the remote headland where the tale is localized.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
