Lost Treasure of the Peruvian — Oahu

Lost Treasure HI • Honolulu County County
Description
1821 Honolulu legend of the Spanish ship Peruvian stopping in Hawaii with revolution-era bullion — mutineers scuttled the vessel off Kaena Point, murdered crewmates, and buried chests inland before dying at sea and leaving only a fragmentary map.
Historical Notes
As Peru revolted against Spain in 1821, treasure lore says the Peruvian carried royal wealth toward Guam, anchored off Oahu, and was sunk by officers Robinson and Brown after gold was rowed ashore. Survivor Monks allegedly found and skimmed part of the hoard but left only a partial map preserved in Bishop Museum archives according to modern retellings. The tale is distinct from the separate 1823 Kaena Point six-chest pirate story and remains one of Honolulu's most detailed ship-treasure legends.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
