Description
1819 Hawaiian monarchy legend of Kamehameha the Great buried with millions in gold, jewels, and feathered regalia — his secret grave never found, protected by kapu and the proverb that only the morning star knows where his bones are guarded.
Historical Notes
Kamehameha unified the Hawaiian Islands by 1810 and died in 1819; oral tradition holds that his remains and royal wealth were hidden in a rainforest cave rather than left in an ordinary tomb. Historians have speculated on Iao Valley, Moku'ula in Lahaina, and other royal burial grounds, but Hawaiian custom deliberately obscured the site to preserve his mana.
