Tory Treasure Shawanunk Mountains Cave

Lost Treasure NY • Sullivan County County
Description
Sullivan County legend of Loyalist Tory treasure concealed in a cave in the Shawanunk Mountains near Summitville — a Revolutionary-era hideout in the southern Catskills.
Historical Notes
Summitville and the Shawangunk ridge saw divided loyalties during the Revolutionary War in the Hudson Valley hinterland. Compiled guides describe a large Tory treasure hidden in a mountain cave rather than risk transport to British lines. The cave tradition complements the named Faquer hoard near Bethel in Sullivan County treasure lore.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
