Sun shading (lidar)

Adjust simulated sun direction on the lidar hillshade. Azimuth = compass bearing of the light (0° north, 90° east). Altitude = height above the horizon (low = long shadows).

Stokes Oak Rope Swing — San Marcos River

Water Locations TX • Hays County County
Coordinates: 29.8608, -97.9345
Elevation: 0 ft
Description
Legendary high oak over the San Marcos River downstream of I-35 — rope swings, hammocks, and deep green water on a spring-fed channel.
Historical Notes
Texas Highways profiles the Stokes Oak downstream of Interstate 35 in San Marcos, where massive branches hold rope swings (including a high rope reached by boards on the trunk and a lower seat rope). The tree is an informal landmark on public river access reached by kayak, tube, or short paddle from Rio Vista Park. City rules prohibit grills within 25 feet of the river. Swim at your own risk; the San Marcos River maintains strong spring flow year-round.
