Dripping Springs Hill Country Payroll Cache

Lost Treasure TX • Hays County County
Description
Dripping Springs legend of Reconstruction-era payrolls and ranch specie buried in the western Hays County hills — gateway to the Pedernales and Blanco River country west of San Marcos.
Historical Notes
Dripping Springs was founded in 1854 in the rugged western Hays County hills. Ranchers and cotton farmers used the Austin–Fredericksburg road through the community to reach San Marcos and Austin markets. Hill Country treasure compilations place unrecovered payroll chests in limestone hills and creek bottoms between San Marcos and Dripping Springs. The town is now the western anchor of the Hays County growth corridor. Coordinates mark downtown Dripping Springs. Private ranch land dominates the surrounding hills.
