Kyle Railway Depot Strongbox — Hays County

Lost Treasure TX • Hays County County
Description
Kyle legend of unrecovered strongboxes along the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad — the Hays County town founded in 1880 as a cattle-shipping point between San Marcos and Austin.
Historical Notes
Kyle was established when the MKT reached Hays County, named for Fergus Kyle who donated land for the depot. The town shipped cattle and cotton from the blackland prairie between San Marcos and Austin. Hill Country outlaw lore places Sam Bass–era and post-war robbery caches along the Austin–San Antonio rail corridor. Kyle's historic downtown and depot district preserve the 19th-century commercial spine. Coordinates mark downtown Kyle on the old MKT right-of-way.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
