Sewell Park — San Marcos River

Water Locations TX • Hays County County
Coordinates: 29.8890, -97.9380
Elevation: 0 ft
Description
Texas State University riverfront park on the spring-fed San Marcos River — tubing, wading, and swimming at the headwaters of the second-largest spring system in Texas.
Historical Notes
Sewell Park anchors the university campus to the San Marcos River, where thousands of gallons per minute of 72°F spring water begin the river's short run toward the Guadalupe. TPWD Magazine groups Sewell Park with City Park and Rio Vista Park as core San Marcos River swimming reaches. Strong current in places makes the river ideal for tubing and fitness swimming. Park access is tied to university calendar and event schedules; Rio Vista Park downstream offers additional public access.
