Description
Legend that Samuel Mason buried a seven-foot chest of gold coins and jewelry near an artesian well on the Reber Dove Farm about four miles northwest of Roxie — never recovered.
Historical Notes
Legends of America reports Mason hid a large chest roughly seven feet long filled with stolen valuables including gold coins and jewelry near an artesian well on the Reber Dove Farm northwest of Roxie in Franklin County. Mason was killed in 1803 before he could retrieve it. The tale overlaps with the separate Roxie "Gold Hole" digging frenzy attributed to Jesse James lore and a deathbed map.
