Bay St. Louis Pirate House Treasure

Lost Treasure MS • Hancock County County
Description
Legend of Jean Lafitte's crew using secret tunnels at the historic Pirate House in Bay St. Louis to move Gulf plunder — structure lost to Hurricane Camille but tunnel-and-treasure tales persist.
Historical Notes
The Pirate House in Bay St. Louis was reputedly frequented by Jean Lafitte and a crew numbering up to 1,000 in some tales. Folklore describes a secret tunnel for transporting loot from the Gulf. Hurricane Camille destroyed the building in 1969, but Hancock County historical markers and local legend hold that tunnels and pirate treasure may remain underground.
