Description
Early 1800s legend of pirate Patrick Scott burying large amounts of plunder in Ocean Springs as Gulf Coast raiders preyed on traffic from the Mississippi River headwaters to the Gulf.
Historical Notes
In the decades after the American Revolution, pirates ranged from upper Mississippi River country to the Gulf of Mexico. Patrick Scott is said to have buried substantial loot in Ocean Springs on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The legend remains part of Jackson County treasure folklore alongside Lafitte-era smuggling tales.
