Ford Island Cave of Kings Treasure

Lost Treasure HI • Honolulu County County
Description
Pearl Harbor legend of a successful nineteenth-century businessman hiding a large portion of his wealth in a Ford Island sea cave — sometimes identified as the Cave of Kings — never reclaimed after his death.
Historical Notes
Ford Island in Pearl Harbor was known to Hawaiians as Moku'ume'ume and held royal associations long before the 1941 attack made it famous. Treasure writers repeat that a wealthy merchant stashed gold and valuables in a shoreline cavern on the islet and died without revealing the entrance. Modern Navy facilities cover much of the island, complicating any search for the folkloric Cave of Kings cache.
