Captain Cavendish Pirate Treasure — Palemano Point

Lost Treasure HI • Hawaii County County
Description
Sixteenth-century privateer legend of Captain Thomas Cavendish burying more than $5 million in gold and silver near Palemano Point reef off the Big Island's Kona coast.
Historical Notes
English privateer Thomas Cavendish raided Spanish shipping in the Pacific during the 1580s; Hawaii folklore later attached his name to a Kona Coast burial. Reader's Digest and Hawaii's Unsolved Mysteries compilations place the hoard near Palemano Point, an exposed reef south of Kealakekua Bay. Expeditions have sought both the buried cache and a wreck without verified discovery.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
