Elevation: 0 ft
Description
East Texas spring pool at a former Boy Scout camp — aquamarine water, rope swings, and a football-field-sized swimming basin in the Piney Woods.
Historical Notes
Camp Tonkawa Springs near Garrison fills a sandy basin in the East Texas pines with frigid aquamarine spring water. A Boy Scout camp and later a bottled-water operation drew from the same source before the site opened for public swimming. Texas Highways ranks Camp Tonkawa among the state's quintessential rope-swing destinations. Swimmers climb worn notches in a leaning tree to reach the best rope over deep water. Day-use fees apply; alcohol is restricted on family days. Coordinates mark 4675 County Road 153 near Garrison.
