Mission San José de los Nazonis Treasure Legend — Cushing

Lost Treasure TX • Nacogdoches County County
Description
Nacogdoches County legend of a Nazoni mission cache near Cushing before San José de los Nazonis became San Juan Capistrano in San Antonio in 1731.
Historical Notes
San José de los Nazonis was established in 1716 in northwest Nacogdoches County. A Texas Department of Transportation marker about two miles north of Cushing commemorates the site. The mission was among the three Querétaro foundations removed to Austin's Barton Springs in 1730 and to San Antonio in 1731, where it was renamed San Juan Capistrano. Abandoned-site treasure lore is common along the removal route. Coordinates approximate the Cushing marker area in Nacogdoches County.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
