Mission San Miguel de los Adaes Treasure Legend

Lost Treasure TX • Nacogdoches County County
Description
Legend of French-trade silver and mission plate buried near San Miguel de los Adaes — Spain's easternmost Texas outpost, near present Robeline, Louisiana.
Historical Notes
San Miguel de los Adaes was founded in 1716 near present Robeline, Louisiana, as the capital of Spanish Texas for decades. TSHA counts it among missions associated with Texas though the site lies just east of the Sabine watershed. Adaes sat on the Camino Real between French Louisiana and Spanish Texas — a smuggling corridor where mission economies mixed with illicit French trade. Folklore describes buried silver from contraband and church treasuries when the mission closed in 1773. Coordinates approximate the Los Adaes State Historic Site area near Robeline.
