Description
Central Oregon legend of an estimated $50,000 in gold bars and coins buried near Skeleton Rock on the north side of the Ochoco River east of Prineville — a popular nineteenth-century campsite.
Historical Notes
Miners and settlers camped along the Ochoco near Skeleton Rock about two miles east of Prineville during the central Oregon mining era. Legends of America estimates fifty thousand dollars in bars and coin concealed in the campsite country. The story complements Prineville-region rockhounding lore and Crook County placer traditions.
