Karl Meyer Miller Creek Cave Gold

Lost Treasure OR • Josephine County County
Description
1878 Josephine County legend of German prospector Karl Meyer finding a cave vein assayed at $415,000 per ton along Miller Creek — he could not relocate the cavern before dying of tuberculosis.
Historical Notes
Meyer sheltered under a rock ledge in a storm, followed a badger into a widened hole, and discovered spectacular gold in a cave beyond. Assays confirmed extraordinary values, but six months of searching from his Miller Creek camp failed to find the entrance again. Legends of America treats the story as one of southern Oregon's richest lost-mine traditions near the Golden ghost-town country.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
