China Bar Cave Gold — Fraser Canyon

Lost Treasure OR • Douglas County County
Description
Douglas County legend of Chinese miners fleeing an Indian attack at China Bar on Salt Creek — they cached gold in a cave near Scuzzy Creek in Fraser Canyon and were killed before recovering it.
Historical Notes
China Bar below Salt Creek mouth was worked by Chinese prospectors amid conflict with indigenous people who considered the Fraser Canyon country home. During a vicious attack miners reportedly hid gold in a cave that has never been located in the remote logging-road mountains. The story appears alongside Days Creek pouches and Steamboat Mountains lost mines in Douglas County compilations.
