Treasure-hunting folklore places the Lost Delos silver mine on the Tennessee side of the Great Smoky Mountains near Gatlinburg. The name echoes Spanish colonial mining ventures that probed the southern Appalachians for precious metals. Frank Pandozzi and regional prospecting guides list Delos among eight classic Tennessee hunts. Shifting park boundaries and dense rhododendron thickets have kept the site speculative. Complements the Perry Shults gold legend in nearby Greenbrier Cove as part of Smokies lost-mine geography.
