Carlisle Springs Confederate Cache

Lost Treasure TN • Stewart County County
Description
Stewart County legend of retreating Confederate soldiers burying gold and silver near Carlisle Springs — about four miles south of Bear Springs — while fleeing Northern troops in 1862.
Historical Notes
Carlisle Springs lies south of Bear Springs in the same Fort Donelson retreat corridor. Treasure guides describe soldiers hiding a cache of gold and silver rather than surrender it to advancing Union cavalry. The legend pairs with the Bear Springs paymaster story as part of western Tennessee's cluster of Civil War payroll folklore along the Cumberland River. Lake Barkley inundated parts of the shoreline but springs and ridge lines above the reservoir still draw hobbyist searches.
