John Winters Buried Treasury — Erin

Lost Treasure TN • Houston County County
Description
Houston County legend of John Winters burying a great cache of gold and silver plate with thirteen companions about two miles north of Erin along the old stage road.
Historical Notes
The John Winters treasury is among the best-known named caches in Tennessee treasure guides. Winters and a company of thirteen men allegedly buried gold and silverware north of Erin on the stage route. Houston County's rolling farmland and creek bottoms provide many hypothetical hiding spots. No documented recovery has been published. Frank Pandozzi lists the Winters treasury alongside Bear Springs and Buffalo River as a starter hunt for Tennessee researchers.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
