Lake City Bootlegger Caches

Lost Treasure MN • Wabasha County County
Description
Lake Pepin legend of large bootlegger wealth caches buried near Lake City during Prohibition — when river towns hid liquor profits along the Mississippi bluffs.
Historical Notes
Wabasha County treasure guides report substantial bootlegger hoards concealed near Lake City on Lake Pepin. The Mississippi River corridor between Wabasha and Lake City was a natural smuggling route during the 1920s. Regional compilations treat the caches as separate from the older Spanish-gold-on-Lake-Pepin tradition.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
