Plattsmouth Oregon Trail Campsite Gold — Cass County

Lost Treasure NE • Cass County County
Description
Cass County legend of gold coins and nuggets buried at an old Oregon Trail campsite west of Plattsmouth — on the Missouri River approach to the Platte Valley corridor.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Cass County compilation records a large cache of gold coins and gold nuggets buried at an old campsite just west of Plattsmouth along the overland route toward the Platte. Emigrants ferried the Missouri River at Council Bluff / Plattsmouth landings before joining the Great Platte River Road. Campsite folklore often places strongboxes buried when Indian attacks, cholera, or sudden departures prevented recovery. Coordinates approximate the west Plattsmouth trail corridor in Cass County, Nebraska. Private farmland — legend only.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
