Omaha legend of the steamer Mary Lou sinking south of the city with a valuable cargo — a Missouri River shipwreck hoard in Douglas County.
Historical Notes
The Missouri River carried steamboat traffic to Omaha from the mid-nineteenth century onward. Compiled guides describe the Mary Lou going down with a valuable cargo just south of Omaha. The wreck pairs with bridge-thrown gold lore and Council Bluffs riverbank traditions on the metro corridor.
