Clinton County treasure guides list a large gold-coin hoard near Carlyle on the Kaskaskia River. Carlyle Lake and the old town site sit in the American Bottom's northern reach. Compiled folklore treats the Carlyle coins separately from the Centralia robbery cache attributed across neighboring counties.
