Pirate Ed Lowe Pond Island Treasure

Lost Treasure ME • Sagadahoc County County
Description
Sagadahoc County legend of pirate Ed Lowe burying a large amount of gold and silver on Pond Island at the mouth of the Kennebec River near Popham Beach.
Historical Notes
Pond Island guards the Kennebec River entrance where colonial shipping met the open Atlantic. Compiled guides name Ed Lowe as a pirate who concealed gold and silver on the island. A separate Cumberland County tradition also places a pirate chest in Pond Island waters — Sagadahoc lists credit Lowe's buried hoard on shore.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
