Historical Notes
McKinney Falls State Park protects Onion Creek's upper and lower falls near the confluence with the Colorado River. Shaded pools above the falls are summer magnets for Austin families. TPWD Magazine lists McKinney Falls among the honorable-mention swimming holes beyond its top ten. Swimming is allowed in designated reaches when flow and bacteria levels permit. Entry requires a Texas State Parks pass or day fee.
