Description
Castell legend of $60,000 in coins Sam Bass supposedly buried near the upper Llano River — one of the Hill Country's most cited outlaw caches west of the Colorado chain.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Llano County compilation states Sam Bass supposedly buried $60,000 near Castell. Legends of America and Hill Country guides also place Bass loot on Packsaddle Mountain and along Sam Bass Road west of Round Rock. Bass was mortally wounded in Round Rock on July 19, 1878; none of his reputed caches have been authenticated. Related entries: "Sam Bass Treasure — Packsaddle Mountain" documents the ridge-country variant; this pin localizes the Castell-area coin legend on the Llano River corridor. Coordinates approximate ranch country east of Castell along the upper Llano River in western Llano County. Private land — legend only.
