Zodiac Mormon Settlement Cache — Gillespie County

Lost Treasure TX • Gillespie County County
Description
Zodiac legend of a Mormon colony strongbox on the Pedernales River — the 1847 settlement Lyman Wight founded near Fredericksburg before moving to Burnet County.
Historical Notes
Shortly after Fredericksburg's founding, Lyman Wight's Mormon colony established Zodiac on the Pedernales River in Gillespie County. The settlement included a mill, carding machine, and furniture factory before Wight moved his colony to Burnet County in 1851. Communal-settlement and mill-site folklore sometimes places buried specie when frontier colonies dissolve or relocate. Zodiac is a ghost-town site west of Fredericksburg on the Pedernales. Coordinates approximate the historic Zodiac settlement on the Pedernales River in western Gillespie County.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
