Zedler Mill San Marcos River Payroll — Martindale

Lost Treasure TX • Caldwell County County
Description
Martindale legend of merchant and mill strongboxes along the San Marcos River at Zedler Mill — a restored 1874 gristmill where the river powered cotton gin, sawmill, and early electricity.
Historical Notes
Martindale on the San Marcos River between San Marcos and Luling grew around Zedler Mill, built in 1874 when the railroad arrived. The mill complex generated electricity from the river as early as 1894. River-mill treasure tradition describes cotton factors and mill owners burying specie when Reconstruction bandits and floods threatened riverside warehouses. Texas Parks and Wildlife maintains a paddling trail from Luling Zedler Mill to Palmetto State Park. Coordinates mark the Zedler Mill historic site in Martindale. Respect museum grounds and private riverfront.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
