Description
Downtown Austin public square set aside in Edwin Waller's 1839 city plan; long used for concerts, political rallies, and civic gatherings.
Historical Notes
One of four original public squares in the Waller plan for Austin. Wooldridge Square hosted open-air concerts, suffrage rallies, and campaign events through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The square sits between the Travis County Courthouse and the Texas state government district; shade trees and open lawn continue its role as a downtown respite.
