Winona Gang Buried Loot

Lost Treasure MN • Winona County County
Description
1880s Winona legend of the Winona Gang burying stolen train and business loot in bluff country after Frank "Big Frank" Connors's outlaw crew laid low from lawmen.
Historical Notes
Winona's Mississippi River port and rail links made it a target for late-nineteenth-century bandits. Compiled lore names Frank "Big Frank" Connors and the Winona Gang hiding gold, cash, and stolen goods in remote hills or riverbanks. Failed robberies and increased patrols supposedly prompted the burial; the gang never recovered the fortune.
