Tri-County Independent reports rumors of a lost pirate gold mine still buried near Windham Creek in Beauregard Parish, close to Hyatt (about thirty minutes from Cannon Cemetery). Southwest Louisiana from Galveston to New Orleans is dense with tales of loot in creeks, bayous, and swamps. Norman Richardson's Where the Gold is—Maybe documents a pirate cache discovered in present-day Beauregard Parish and Spanish gold near Opelousas.
