Windblow Naked Creek Confederate Pot

Lost Treasure NC • Richmond County County
Description
Windblow community legend of a lead pot of Confederate gold coins buried in a longleaf pine thicket at Naked Creek after a wagon sank in Sandhill mire in 1865.
Historical Notes
Bolton's Windblow tale describes a Richmond-to-Greensboro gold wagon that sank crossing Naked Creek. Soldiers salvaged most bullion but buried one heavy pot when horses could carry no more. A watching boy kept silent for decades; on his deathbed he described the site. 1930s metal-detector searches hit a signal at a lightered stump — but a neighbor allegedly dug it up overnight and moved to an apple farm in the mountains. Locals debate whether the greedy farmer found the pot or the legend remains open.
