Description
White River legend of roughly $60,000 in gold hidden in a cave near the Kimberling City–Table Rock reservoir country — loot from nineteenth-century river pirates and counterfeiters working the Missouri–Arkansas line.
Historical Notes
Ozarks library indexes and KSMU-featured folklore describe a cave cache on the Arkansas side of the White River hills, attributed to an outlaw band that raided river traffic in the late 1800s. The sum is often quoted near sixty thousand dollars in gold coin, buried when lawmen closed in and the gang dissolved. Reservoir construction and private land have limited systematic search; the tale persists in Carroll and Stone county treasure compilations.
