Waterfall Mine — Shasta County

Lost Treasure CA • Shasta County County
Description
Shasta County lost-mine legend of the Waterfall Mine — a rich lode said to lie near a cascade in the northern Sacramento River foothills, lost after the original discoverers abandoned the site.
Historical Notes
The Waterfall Mine is listed in Legends of America's California lost-mines compendium as a northern Mother Lode–style legend tied to a waterfall landmark. Prospectors reportedly found coarse gold near the falls, worked it briefly, then could not relocate the vein after winter floods altered the drainage. The tale overlaps geographically with Rattlesnake Dick and Ruggles Brothers country but remains a separate named-mine tradition.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
