Wallula Train Robbery Gold Bars

Lost Treasure WA • Walla Walla County County
Description
Late-nineteenth-century legend of bandits burying stolen gold bars near old Fort Walla Walla after missing a Portland boat — shot before revealing the spot, now beneath Fort Walla Walla Park.
Historical Notes
Train robbers reportedly seized several gold bars near Wallula on the Columbia River corridor. They buried the cache near Fort Walla Walla intending to catch a Portland vessel, but were killed before disclosing the location. The old fort is gone; Legends of America places the legend at the western edge of modern Walla Walla at Fort Walla Walla Park.
