Virginia Point Lafitte Wreck Guns

Lost Treasure TX • Galveston County County
Description
Galveston Bay entrance legend that cannon from Lafitte's wrecked ships — some reportedly stuffed with gold and silver — were found at Virginia Point, with more treasure said to remain nearby.
Historical Notes
Virginia Point lies on the mainland west shore of Galveston Bay near the Houston Ship Channel and San Jacinto Battleground. It was a natural lookout and anchorage for vessels entering the bay from the west. The Rocker Box records that guns stuffed with treasure, attributed to Jean Lafitte's wrecked ships, were discovered at Virginia Point and that additional caches may exist in the surrounding mudflats and shell ridges. The tale blends documented Lafitte activity in Galveston Bay with unverified "treasure in cannon" folklore common to Gulf pirate stories. Coordinates mark Virginia Point at the bay's western entrance.
