Vicksburg Shreveport and Pacific Railroad Payroll — Ouachita Parish

Lost Treasure LA • Ouachita Parish County
Description
West Monroe legend of unrecovered railroad payroll near the Vicksburg, Shreveport and Pacific bridge — when Cottonport became a twin-city rail depot after the Ouachita River crossing opened.
Historical Notes
The Vicksburg, Shreveport and Pacific Railway transformed Cottonport into a river-and-rail junction after bridging the Ouachita, making West Monroe and Monroe the "Twin Cities of Northeast Louisiana." Nineteenth-century rail-construction folklore often places paymaster chests and contractor specie near bridge approaches, section houses, and depots when lines opened through plantation country. Coordinates mark the Bridge Street / Cypress Street rail corridor at the Ouachita River crossing between Monroe and West Monroe. Active transportation corridor — legend only.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
