Sun shading (lidar)

Adjust simulated sun direction on the lidar hillshade. Azimuth = compass bearing of the light (0° north, 90° east). Altitude = height above the horizon (low = long shadows).

Upper Llano River — Schneider Slab Reach — Mason County

Gold Mining Site TX • Mason County County
Description
Upper Llano River granite-shelf reach between Mason–Llano Road and Castell Crossing. TPWD references the Schneider Slab (Seventh Heaven) corridor — a documented float and fishing segment for upland Llano placer gold.
Historical Notes
Texas Parks & Wildlife describes the Castell Crossing leased access on FM 2768 as approximately 6.6 river miles downstream of Mason–Llano Road and 4.7 miles upstream of HR Seventh Heaven (Schneider Slab Road). This pin marks the intervening upper-Llano reach predominantly in Mason County. The Llano here flows over pink granite shelf country within the Llano Uplift. Fine placer gold flakes concentrate in gravel bars and bedrock crevices — the same geological setting as Kingsland Slab and other documented Texas panning areas upstream and downstream. Access note: Castell Crossing (30.704516, -98.958782) offers TPWD leased bank fishing downstream in Llano County. Seventh Heaven / Schneider Slab access lies further upstream. Much of this corridor is private — verify current TPWD lease sites and landowner rules before prospecting.
