Twin Sisters Max Krueger Cotton Gin Strongbox — Blanco County

Lost Treasure TX • Blanco County County
Description
Twin Sisters legend of a cotton-gin and general-store strongbox from Max Krueger's German settlement — the southern Blanco County community that had three stores, a gristmill, and a gin by 1890.
Historical Notes
Twin Sisters lies on the Little Blanco River and US Highway 281 seven miles south of Blanco, named for twin hills visible for miles. Joel Cherry homesteaded in 1854; by the late 1850s the area was the center of German settlement in present Blanco County and hosted the county's first post office in 1856. Max Krueger arrived in 1875, owned the mill, gin, and a general store, and served as postmaster and justice of the peace until droughts from 1894 to 1896 forced him to sell out. Cotton-gin specie folklore places merchant strongboxes along gin-row corridors in southern Hill Country towns. Coordinates mark Twin Sisters on US Highway 281 south of Blanco in southernmost Blanco County.
