Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Reeves County list describes a cache of Confederate gold near Toyahvale. Toyahvale sits at the mouth of Wild Rose Pass in the Davis Mountains, a historic corridor linking the Pecos country to Fort Davis and El Paso. Civil War–era specie and paymaster gold appear repeatedly in West Texas folklore as columns retreated from New Mexico campaigns or guarded cotton-for-guns routes across the Trans-Pecos.
