Tahoka Double Mountain Fork Wagon Payroll — Lynn County

Lost Treasure TX • Lynn County County
Description
Lynn County legend of a wagon-train payroll buried near the Double Mountain Fork of the Brazos — the South Plains drainage where pioneer freighters crossed the Llano Estacado.
Historical Notes
The Double Mountain Fork of the Brazos River rises on the Llano Estacado in Lynn and Garza counties and flows east across the Rolling Plains. Tahoka, the Lynn County seat, developed as a ranch and cotton center on the South Plains rim. Wagon-payroll caches appear throughout West Texas guidebooks along Brazos headwater crossings. Related Abilene-area entries document Spider Rock and Double Mountains traditions farther east in Stonewall County — distinct named variants. Coordinates mark Tahoka in central Lynn County south of Lubbock.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
