The Summitville district, in SW corner of the county, high in the San Juan Mountains, had a total production from 1873-1959, of about 257,600 ounces. The Little Annie Group of mines were the principal producers of lode gold. At the head of Whightman Fork (tributary of Alamosa Creek), at an elevation of 11,000-12,000 feet, the area mines produced a by-product gold.
