Historical Notes
Stephenville developed as the Erath County seat and a Texas Central Railroad town, later home to Tarleton State University and a major dairy industry. Weekly railroad and cattle-sale payrolls concentrated cash at division points across North Central Texas. Rail-payroll folklore mirrors Hico, Dublin, and Comanche entries on parallel lines west of Waco. Erath County sits between the Bosque and Leon drainages on the Grand Prairie edge.
