Stede Bonnet Cooper River Hoard — Childsbury

Lost Treasure SC • Berkeley County County
Description
Cooper River legend of the "Gentleman Pirate" Stede Bonnet hauling loot inland to Childsbury Town and Strawberry Chapel before the overland march to Wantoot Plantation.
Historical Notes
Folklore places Bonnet's 1718 journey as far up the Cooper River as Childsbury Town — a colonial settlement near present Cordesville whose surviving Strawberry Chapel (1725) marks the inland turning point. Shallow draft forced pirates ashore to continue toward Wantoot on foot. The route ties Berkeley County rice-country history to Charleston's Golden Age of Piracy. Captain Marrow's reenactment group The Bachelor's Delight stages the Lake Moultrie treasure legend for Lowcountry audiences.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
