Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Martin County compilation states a portion of loot from a train robbery is buried in or near Stanton. Martin County was organized in 1876 with Stanton as county seat on the divide between the Concho and Colorado drainages. Rail holdups along West Texas lines appear in multiple county guidebooks. Stanton lies on the plains northeast of Midland toward Big Spring. Coordinates mark Stanton in Martin County.
