Description
Historic Catholic parish in Mason; church building completed 1876, among the oldest surviving church structures in the county seat.
Historical Notes
Catholic missionaries traveled through Mason County before organization, but German and Hispanic settlement increased Catholic presence in the 1870s. The 1876 St. Joseph building outlasted many frontier structures. Recorded in Mason County historical surveys as one of the earliest stone church buildings in town.
